PAMH now has a beautiful new garden!! | |
| The following appeared in the Dundee Courier Prince's Trust Volunteers Deliver Goods on Garden After two weeks of back-breaking work the members of Dundee College Prince's Trust team in Perth have officially handed over the new-look garden at the Milne Street HQ of the Perth Association for Mental Health. The gardens were overgrown before the team set about clearing and levelling the ground, laying new paths and planting shrubs and trees. Great care was also taken to ensure that there is now access for visitors of all abilities. As the team's community project had to be completed in two weeks there were no lay-offs for bad weather. "We quickly discovered that hard work doesn't get any easier when it is raining," said team leader Vicky Mair. "The garden was a complete jungle before we started but now, thanks to the team's hard work and support from a number of rims, we have been able to lay paths, paint the masonry, put down chips and complete the soft landscaping with plants." The team raised cash to help finance the project with a sponsored leg wax. They officially handed the finished garden back to the Association and, in an informal ceremony, had their efforts recognised by the charity's representative, Alastair Jamieson. The Prince's Trust team programme is aimed at preparing those taking part for that vital "next step" into employment or further education. The 12-week project helps people aged between 16 and 25 develop confidence, learn new skills and get into work as well as bringing together people from different backgrounds and circumstances and with different abilities. Trainee social worker, Heather Allison said, "Perth Association for Mental Health are very grateful for the help of the Prince's Trust volunteers in renovating our garden area and improving access for people with limited mobility." The Association continues to benefit from the useful input provided by volunteers and we're always looking for people to help. "We are currently looking for volunteers to serve on our board and if any readers feel they can help please contact us on 01738 639657." |
